The Iacomini Story

The story begins with Augusto Iacomini, who made the move from Florence, Italy to America in 1903, with only $35 in his pocket. In 1932, Augusto and his wife Aletta (Mom & Pop) opened "The Florentine Grill" (later changed to "Iacomini's") inside their home and the first Iacomini family restaurant was born. In 1953, the restaurant caught fire and reopened as in 1954. Mom and Pop had three sons. In 1958, the family opened "The Garden Grill" with son Joe and grandson Gene running the day-to-day operations. The family maintained several different businesses throughout the next several years. In 1969, son Joe opened "Little Joe's Pub" in Bath. Next, came "Little Joe's Pub" in Hudson, operated by Joe's son, Gene, until he retired. In 1986, Joe puchased "The Lodge" (later, "Papa Joe's") in the Merriman Valley. With the help of his daughter, Judy Amato and grandchildren Kim & Jeff Bruno, Papa Joe's flourished. Today, Papa Joe's still stands strong in the Merriman Valley where we celebrate over 90 years of business, family, friends, guests and authentic Italian fare.
